A few were shocked in Birini Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital by the confessions of a body snatcher, nabbed in the act of harvesting body parts from corpses in a grave yard.

en can be desperate in the quest for power, money and other material things. The case of one Danbaba Umar, aged 35 in Kebbi has become a sordid example of the so many ritual-related crimes that have become very rampant in the society.
Umar, a native of Zaria, Kaduna State was arrested by the police in Bagudo Cemetery, Kebbi State, while harvesting body parts from buried corpses for rituals. The suspect, who is currently in police custody, undergoing interrogation, confessed to the crime to the police.
When he was paraded alongside other criminals at the State Police Command in Birnin Kebbi, he further owned up to the crime to our correspondent but blamed the devil, whom he said worked through one Mallam Muhammad, who commissioned him to implement the crime for a special ritual purposes.
‘’ I went to the grave yard because I was directed by one Mallam to exhume dead human bodies and remove some parts from the bodies. He said I should cut part of eyebrow, tongue, the white cloth that was used to wrap the bodies and other body parts. Unfortunately luck ran out of me and I was caught by the police. This is my first time of doing this. I was asked by the mallam to do it. Although what I did was wrong but I beg for mercy and I will not do it again.”
The more unfortunate thing for Umar is that the alleged mallam who commissioned him to get the human parts has now vanished into the thin air.
The records of the Kebbi State Police Command in riding the state of criminal elements did not stop at arresting Umar. The Kebbi state police command also paraded a gang of armed robbers, who have been terrorising the state.
The six suspected armed robbers according to the state police command have unleashing mayhem, killing people, snatching their properties, money, cars and motorcycles.
The six suspected armed robbers according to the police were arrested at Danko Wasagu, Shanga and Kamba areas of the state, while they mounted road blocks and armed with dangerous weapons.
According to the police, “On 16/5/2017, Bello Abubakar Dogo, aged 29 years and Muhammad Ali aged 30 years all of the same village of Gironmasa/Runtuwar Bege blocked Shanga and Yauri roads and robbed two victims, they were subsequently arrested by the police from Shanga Division. Equally also one Abdullahi Kailu and Dauda Jibo  blocked Gorun Bajida/Bengu federal road and robbed their victim.

A motorcycle thief, Isyaka Usman who was also arrested by the police came all the way from Lapai, Niger State to Kebbi to steal motorcycles and sell it to his customers.
‘’I found the business lucrative because it is easy to steal and sell. I came to know of a market in Kebbi State that specialises in buying and selling of stolen motorcycles. That place is called Argungu. Anytime I stolen any motorcycle I will simply take it Argungu, there is a syndicate that deals in buying and selling of motorcycles in the place that is why I left my state Niger to come to Argungu in Kebbi State for this business,’’ Usman said.
The Kebbi State Police Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Kabiru told our correspondent that the state police command has recorded significant harvest of criminals from January till date. ‘’It is not by accident that Kebbi State became one of the least state in crime rate, this is because of the measures that we have put in place.
